Worthing College fall short against Haywards Heath after two first half goals from the away side. Here are the key moments of a fairly quiet friendly fixture at Culver Road.

Worthing’s pre match session on Monday focused specifically on set pieces and how they can get the ball into wide areas in order to be direct and dangerous. After the session, Worthing manager Dave Hall took part in an interview where I questioned him on what we can expect from the match against Haywards Heath. He stated “The AOC team are doing exceptionally well, I expect them to keep the standards high.”

After Portsmouth pulled out on short notice, Worthing College’s AOC game was cancelled, however they took on Haywards Heath in a friendly on Wednesday afternoon.

Haywards Heath took the lead early on as a shot from outside the box wasn’t handled well by Cornfield who allowed the ball to roll under his body. The away side doubled their lead shortly after their first as their number 5 sent the ball out to number 11 on the wing. 11 attempted a powerful shot at goal however Cornfield got a hand to it. However the goalkeepers parry landed straight at the feet of a grateful Haywards Heath striker who calmly turned the ball towards goal.

Worthing were very quiet throughout he game with their first chance coming right at the end of the first half, Hugill’s effort struck the crossbar just before the interval.

It was a much quieter second half, with less chances for both sides. The substitution of Ebanks for Worthing bought a bit of energy up top however still nothing amounted to a goal for the home side. Towse had a free kick on the edge of the box and although it was on target, his strike lacked any power that would be able to test the opposing goalkeeper.

There were no goals in the second half and the game finished 2-0, fortunately for Worthing it was a friendly match so their unbeaten league run is still intact.
