After the first ten games since their return to the Premier League, Sheffield United have officially had the worst start to the season in its history, following their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.
The Blades have earnt just one point in their opening 10 games, coming from their 2-2 draw against Everton. In this time, they’ve conceded the most goals in the league with 29 and scored the least with seven.
Although the run doesn’t come as a surprise to most, as Sheffield United sold arguably their two best players in Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge.
Eddie Nketiah shone as the Gunners beat Sheffield United, scoring his first Premier League hat-trick. When Arsenal were awarded a penalty, Nketiah had the chance to become the third Arsenal player to score four goals in a game but selflessly let Fabio Veira score from the spot. Thierry Henry and Andrey Arshavin remain the only two Arsenal players to achieve this feat.
In a post-match interview, Nketiah said he didn’t mind not joining two Arsenal legends, he said: “It’s about being a team player, Fabio’s family are here too so I’m happy for him”. Nketiah dedicated his impressive hat-trick to his late aunt, who’s family were also in attendance at the Emirates.
Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom’s time could be running out, former manager Chris Wilder is the favourite be the replacement if the club choose to part ways with him.
